Pathogenic on Myrtaceae. The sexual morph is characterised by the subepidermal ascomata, which is hypophyllous, black and ostiolate. Asci are 8-spored, subcylindrical, straight or slightly incurved, and subsessile. Ascospores are overlapping 2–3-triseriate, 1-septate, thin-walled, hyaline, straight, obovoid with rounded ends, and gently tapered at each end (Crous et al. 2006). The asexual morph is characterised by the subepidermal conidiomata, which are abaxial, scattered to gregarious, erumpent and multi-locular at maturity. The conidiomatal wall is comprised of textura angularis, and brown-walled cells. Conidiophores are reduced to conidiogenous cells. Conidiogenous cells are holoblastic, percurrent proliferation and flask-shaped. Conidia are brown, verruculose, oval, with apex rounded, base truncate and marginal frill (Swart 1988, Wijayawardene et al. 2016).

Notes: Davisoniella was introduced by Swart (1988) based on D. eucalypti as the type species, which was isolated from leaf spots of Eucalyptus marginata and recently felled trees. Mycosphaerella davisoniellae was identified as having a Davisoniella anamorph (Crous et al. 2006). Because of the similar brown and aseptate conidia, Davisoniella is related to Colletogloeopsis (current name Teratosphaeria) however differs by the unilocular to multilocular conidiomata on the leaf surfaces of Davisoniella (Crous et al. 2006, Wijayawardene et al. 2016). Species Fungorum (September 2024) lists one species in Davisoniella, and there is no sequence data available for Davisoniella in GenBank (September 2024). The updated taxonomic treatment of this genus is Teratosphaeriaceae, in Mycosphaerellales (Dothideomycetes) (Wijayawardene et al. 2022).
